Hunting

Matombu Wild Ranch and Lodge, South Africa – 2009. This trip to South Africa primarily for photography but with the intention of a little trophy hunting. I was after a kudu and my friend Don was looking for an impala. Most of the hunting time was spent at Matombu Kamp which is about 40km north of Middelburg, Mpumalanga Province. Because the kudu proved to be very illusive we also visited two other game reserves in the Loskop Dam area. It took eight days to track down a kudu.
Our tracker, Lucas, a San Bushman.
Don’s first shot at an impala. The white puff just behind this male is his missed shot.
The second shot was good. This is a large impala.

After six days of failing to find a kudu, we spotted this Oryx which was my second choice for a trophy.

Our trackers following a group of six kudu males.
Don’s second impala – upper right. Another white puff behind this one but it was a good hit.
Don’s second impala. Much smaller that the first one.
